- You are required to complete your 12th standard or an equivalent examination from a recognized Board or University.
- According to the Ministry of Human Resources Development, degrees, diplomas, and certificates obtained from Universities are valid for employment under the Central Government. However, they must be approved by the Distance Education Bureau of the University Grants Commission.
- As per the University Grants Commission (UGC) regulations, certain programs like Engineering, Medicine, Dental, Nursing, Pharmacy, Architecture, and Physiotherapy are not allowed through distance learning. But, B.Tech. degrees/diplomas in Engineering awarded by Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) are considered valid to students enrolled up to the academic year 2009-10.
- Selected candidates must show original certificates such as mark sheets, 12th standard, or equivalent examination certificates during document verification.

If you get shortlisted in the Computer-Based Examination, you will be eligible to appear in the Skill Test of the SSC Stenographer Exam. During the exam time, you will hear the dictation for 10 minutes, either in English or Hindi depending on your choice.
