    A king ordered to make a crown from 8 kg of gold and 2 kg of silver. The goldsmith took away some amount of gold and replaced it by an equal amount of silver and the crown when made, weight 10 kg. The king knows that under water gold loses  of its weight, while silver loses . When the crown was weighed under water, it was 9.25 kg. How much gold was stolen by the goldsmith?
    Solutions

    Let the amount that is replaced =X kg

    So now weight of gold= 8-x

    Weight of silver= 2+X

    Gold loses 1/20th under water, so under water weight of gold =

    Silver loses 1/10th under water, so under water weight of silver =

    The total weight of crown under water is 9.25 kg

    So ,

    ,

    ,

    .75 -0.6=X/20,

    0.15*20=X,

    X=3 kg.

    A alloy of 50 kg having the silver and gold in the ratio of 2:3 is mixed with another alloy of 150 kg having silver and gold in the ratio of 4:5. Find the ratio of gold and silver in new alloy:
    Solutions
    Quantity of silver containing first alloy kg

    Quantity of gold containing first alloy kg

    Quantity of silver containing second alloy kg

    Three taps A, B and C can together fil the tank in 3 hours. After 1 hour C is closed and the tank is filled in 4 more hours. Find the time in which C alone can fill the tank.
    Solutions

    Three taps A,B and C can together fill the tank in 1 hour

    Remaining part of the tank

    Since C tap is closed so the amount of work needed to be done by (A+B) =

    But it has taken them 4 hours to do so.

    Hence A and B can together fill the tank in 6 hours.

    But we know that

    Hence C can alone fill the tank in 6 hours.

    In what ratio, tea of Rs. 40 per kg should be mixed with 10kg tea of Rs. 32 per kg, so that cost price of mixture is Rs. 37 per kg?
    Solutions

    Let amount of tea of Rs. 40 per kg added = X kg
    According to the question,
    40X + 10 × 32 = (10 + X) × 37
    40X + 320 = 370 + 37X
    3X = 50
    X = (50/3)

    Required Ratio =

    Hence, option A is correct.

    Spirit and water are present in a ratio of 9:11 in a vessel. If 6 liters of spirit and 6 liters of water is added to this mixture, then the ratio of spirit and water becomes 11:13 . Find the initial amount of spirit in the vessel.
    Solutions

    Option D is correct answer

    Spirit and water are present in a ratio of 9:11 in a vessel.

    Let amount of spirit present in vessel = 9x

    Amount of water present in vessel = 11x

    A.T.Q.

     117x + 78 = 121x +66

     4x = 12

     x = 3 litre

    Hence, Initial amount of spirit in the vessel = 9x = 9× 3 litre = 27 litre
