• Chilika Lake is a brackish water lagoon, spread over the Puri, Khurda and Ganjam districts of Odisha. The Odisha Wetland Authority has recently approved implementation of an integrated management plan for Chilika, country’s largest brackish water lagoon.

• It is the largest wintering ground for migratory birds on the Indian sub-continent. The lake is home to a number of threatened species of plants and animals.

• In 1981, Chilika Lake was designated the first Indian wetland of international importance under the Ramsar Convention.

• Kolleru lake is located between the deltas of Godavari and Krishna.

• It is a bird sanctuary and also a wetland site listed under the Ramsar list.

• Siberian crane, ibis, and painted storks are major birds found here.

● The Sambhar Salt Lake is India's largest inland Salt Lake. It is located in Indian State of Rajasthan. It surrounds the historical Sambhar Lake Town.

● Gurudongmar Lake is one of the highest lakes in the world and in India, located at an altitude of 5,430 m, in the Indian state of Sikkim.

* Loktak lake is situated in Manipur.

* Keibul Lamjao national park is located here.

* Loktak Day is observed every year on the 15th of October at the periphery of the Loktak lake.

* Manipuri River inflows this lake.

* It was declared Ramsar Wetland site on 23^rd March, 1990.

* It is also registered on Montreux Record on 16 June, 1993.
