There 200 students in a class whose average marks in Mathematics is 40. The average marks obtained by boys in Mathematics is 60 while that of girls is 35 then find the number of girls in the class?

    Solutions

Let the number of boys and girls in the class be x and y respectively

    So,

    Total students= 200

    x + y= 200…….. (i)

    Now,

    60x+ 35y= 40*200

    60x+35y= 8000…… (ii)

By solving the two equations, we get

    y= 160, x= 40

Number of girls in the class= 160

The ratio of the length of train A to that of train B is 8 : 7. The speed of train B is 25% less than the speed of train A. The speed of train A is 84 km/h and it takes 24 seconds to cross it. A tree. Find the time taken by train B to cross a bridge that is 385 m long.

    Solutions

    Length of the train A = 84 ×(5/18)× 24 = 560 m

    Length of train B = 560 × 7/8 = 490 m

    Speed of train B = 84 × 0.75 = 63 km/h = 63 × 5/18 m/s

    = 17.5 m/s

Required time taken by train to cross 385 m long bridge =  (490 + 385)/17.5

    = 50 seconds

Rohan and Mohan start a business with investments of Rs. 24000 and Rs. 28000 respectively. After four months, Rahul also joined them with certain investment. Total profit at the end of the year was Rs. 19950. If Rahul’s share in the profit was Rs. 7600 then what was the Rahul’s investment in the business?

    Solutions

    Let Rahul’s investment = Rs. X thousand

Ratio of their equivalent capital for 1 year:

    12 × 24000 : 12 × 28000 : 8 × X × 1000 = 36 : 42 : X

    Sum of their ratios = 78 + X

    According to the question:

    ⇒ 1995X = 760 × 78 + 760X

    ⇒ 1235X = 59280

    Hence, Rahul’s investment in the business = X thousand = Rs. 48000.

The ratio between the present age of P and Q is 8 : x. P is 10 years younger than R, R’s age after 10 years will be 44 years. The difference between Q’s and P’s age is same as the present age of R. What will come in place of x?

    Solutions

    R’s present age = (44 – 10) years = 34 years

    ∴ P’s present age = (34 – 10) years = 24 years

    P’s age : Q’s age = 8 : x = 8 × 3 : 3 × x = 24 : 3x

    ∴ Q’s present age = 3x

    According to question,

    ⇒ 3x – 24 = 34

    ⇒ 3x = 24 + 34
