The feeling of adolescents that they are special and unique, loneliness, belief that nobody understands them are all correct about adolescence.
Insecurity and dependency is not major challenge faced by adolescents. These two challenges are majorly seen during the period of childhood when a child is dependent on his parents and might have a feeling of insecurity, leading them to feel or think less of them.
During adolescence, a teen tries new things, takes responsibility for themselves, makes decisions on their own, and works out who they are and what they want to be.
Hall was the first psychologist to research on the changes and behavioral characteristics of an individual. He applied this theory to human development and divided human development in four periods, infancy, childhood, youth, and adolescence. According to Stanley Hall, adolescence is known as the stage of “storm and stress”.
Adolescence is a period of transition between childhood and adulthood, in this stage adolescents are neither considered as children nor as adults. They face some common problems like heightened emotionally, feelings of insecurity, identity crisis, and revolt against authority.
In the late childhood stage, boys and girls feel the sense of their physical attachment to their same sexes. Boys love to play and chat with the boys and the girls remain with the girls. They remain quite indifferent to the opposite sex. At the very later part of this stage boys and girls begin to develop a critical outlook or attraction towards the opposite sex.
Adolescence is the stage of development, where a person can generalize and concentrate. Moral values are developed and critical evaluation of moral values is done. Lack of concept of measurement is not a characteristic of adolescence.
In a class of adolescents, as a teacher, we should keep realistic expectations from children. Unrealistic expectations may lead to stress and failure. So, a teacher should always expect only those things which can be achieved by the student.
