10 men working 8 hours day can do a work in 30 days. In how many days will 12 men working 4 hours a day take do the same work?
We know, M1 × D1 × H1 = M2 × D2 × H2
⇒ 10 × 8 × 30 = 12 × 4 × D2
⇒ D2 = 50 days
The table given below shows the number of students enrolled in different courses of different colleges.
What is the difference in the total number of students enrolled in colleges C3 and C4?
Total number of students enrolled in college C3
= 72 + 54 + 88 + 125 = 339
Total number of students enrolled in college C4
= 76 + 52 + 75 + 120 = 323
Required difference = 339 – 323 = 16
Read the given statements and conclusions carefully. Assuming that the information given in the statements is true, even if it appears to be at variance with commonly known facts, decide which of the given conclusions logically follow(S) from the statements.
Statement:
Some fats are carbohydrate.
All carbohydrates are proteins.
All proteins are vitamins.
Conclusion:
I. Some vitamins are fats.
II. Some vitamins are not carbohydrates.
III. All fats are proteins.
I. Some vitamins are fats –it is a definite case, hence true.
II. Some vitamins are not carbohydrates–it is not a definite case, hence false.
III. All fats are proteins–it is not a definite case, hence false.
Thus, only conclusion I follow.
The distance between the house of Shyam and his school is 120 km. While going to school on Monday, he was late by 1.5 hours. So he decided to increase his speed by 4 kmph on Tuesday and thus he reached his school on time. What is the percentage change in the speed of Shyam on Tuesday with respect to Monday.
Let speed on Monday be x kmph and speed on Tuesday (x + 4) kmph
According to the question,
120/x – 120/(x+4) = 3/2
(120x + 480 – 120x)/(x² + 4x) = 3/2
320 = x² + 4x
x² + 4x – 320 =0
x² + 20x – 16x – 320 = 0
x(x + 20) – 16(x + 20) = 0
x = 16
Speed on Tuesday = 16 + 4 = 20 kmph
Required percentage = (4/16)×100 = 25%.
In the following question a statement is given, followed by two inference I and II. You have to consider the statement to be true even if it seems to be at variance from commonly known facts. You have to decide which of the given inference, if any, can be made.
Statement: No one is so brave that he is not disturbed by something unexpected.
Inference:
I. Unexpected event can disturb anyone.
II. Brave should not be disturbed by unexpected events.
As per statement everyone can be disturbed by an unexpected event. So, inference I can be made.
There is nothing in the statement that suggests the behaviour in face of unexpected events. So, inference II cannot be made.
Thus, only inference I can be made.
