Abhishek and Sandeep undertake a piece of work for Rs. 13464. Abhishek can do it in 20 days, Sandeep can do it in 30 days and with the help of Pawan, they finish it in 8 days. How much should Pawan be paid for his contribution if all three of them works from starting to end of the work? (in Rs.)
Let the total work be 60 units.
Abhishek’s efficiency = 3 units/day
Sandeep’s efficiency = 2 units/day
Two glasses of lemonade were kept on a table. First glass contains 15% sugar and second solution contains 5% sugar. How many liters of second solution must be added to 40 L of first solution to get overall 10% sugar solution?
In 40 L of solution sugar = 15% of 40 = 6L
Let the solution to be added = a L
⇒ 600 + 5a = 400 + 10a
⇒ 200 = 5a
⇒ a = 40
Hence, 40 L of another solution needs to be added.
A vendor makes a profit of 20% by selling apples at a certain price. If he charges Rs 1.2 higher per apple he would gain 40%. Find the original price at which he sold an apple.
Let the CP of an apple be x.
SP of an apple = 120% of x = 1.2x
New SP = 1.2 + 1.2x
According to question,
1.2 + 1.2x = 1.4x
⇒ 0.2x = 1.2
⇒ x = 6
Original SP = 1.2 × 6 = Rs. 7.2
Anshul cycled at 15 km/h for certain part of the journey and then he took a bus for the remaining part of the journey and travelled at 45 km/h. He took 8 hours for the entire journey with an average speed of 24 km/h. Find the distance travelled by him on cycle.
Let time taken by Anshul while travelling on cycle be ‘t’ hours.
Equating total distance, we get:
15t + 45 × (8 – t) = 24 × 8
⇒ 30t = 168
⇒ t = 5.6 hours
∴ Part of journey travelled by cycle = 15t
= 15 × 5.6
= 84 km
A person borrowed Rs. 7000 at simple interest from his friend. At end of 3 years, he again borrowed Rs. 3000 at simple interest and closes his account after paying Rs. 4615 as interest after 8 years from the time he made the first borrowing. Find the rate of interest.
The interest would be paid on Rs. 7000 for 3 years and Rs. 10000 for 5 years.
Let the rate of interest per annum be r%.
⇒ 710r = 4615
⇒ r = 6.5
What approximate value should come in place of the question mark (?) in the following question? (Note: You are not expected to calculate the exact value)
18.58 – 13.48 + (12.99)3= ?
By approximation, we get:
? = 18.5 – 13.5 + (13)3
= 5 + 2197
= 2202
≈ 2200
195.98 ÷ 14 × 8.01 + ? = 152
196 ÷ 14 × 8 + ? = 225
⇒ 14 × 8 + ? = 225
⇒ ? + 112 = 225
⇒ ? = 225 – 112
⇒ ? = 113
What approximate value should come in place of question mark (?) in following questions? (Note: You are not expected to calculate the exact value)
7.24 × 36.04 + 791.83 ÷ 10.99 + 412.04 = ?
? = 7.25 × 36 + 792 ÷ 11 + 412
= 261 + 72 + 412
= 745
What approximate value should come in place of question mark (?) in following questions?
Directions For Questions
Direction: Study the following table carefully and answer the given questions.
Table given below shows the cost price (CP), selling price (SP), profit (in %), marked price (MP) and discount (in Rs.) on 5 different articles – P, Q, R, S and T sold by a store.
Note: Profit is calculated on cost price, while discount is calculated on marked price.
