Padma is a major river in Bangladesh and also the main distributary of the Ganges. It generally flows in the southeast for 120 kilometres to its confluence with the Meghna River near the Bay of Bengal. It is known for its heavy bank erosion, shifting channels, and sandbars that continually emerge in its course. The main tributary of this river is Mahananda.
