P and Q are at a distance of 240 km from each other at 9:00 a.m. After 1 hour, P starts moving towards Q at a speed of 25 km/hr. At 11 a.m. Q starts moving towards P at the speed of 18 km/hr. At what time (in p.m.) will they meet?

    Solutions

Distance between P and Q=240 km
    So P will start at 10:00 a.m.
So distance covered by P in 1 hour =25km
Now distance has to be covered with relative speed =215km
    And relative speed =25+18=43 km/hr
    Now time taken by them  = 215/43 = 5hour
So they will meet at 4 pm.

Statement: More than half the number of intelligence agents of the Research and Analysis Wing of India is deputed to keep an eye on Pakistan and China because India has fought many wars with the two countries.

    Assumptions:

    I. The threat perception from the two countries is high.

II. Both China and Pakistan have stable economies and can pose stiff competition to India.

    Solutions

Assumption I is correct. Since India has fought wars with China and Pakistan, it is safe to assume that the threat perception from the two countries is quite high. The II assumption is incorrect. A stable economy can never be the reason for an intelligence agency to keep an eye on some country.

Statement: The state government is planning to launch a welfare scheme for the Below Poverty Line families promising food items at subsidized prices.

    Assumption :

I: Current prices of food items are higher than the proposed prices.

II: Food is a basic necessity of human life.

    Solutions

The statement talks about the welfare scheme offering food at ‘subsidized prices’. Thus, by definition the proposed prices would be lower than the current food prices. Assumption I is therefore implicit in the statement. Assumption II is not implicit in the statement as there are other basic necessities of life as well but the welfare scheme is not covering those.
