    Solutions

    A shopkeeper sells an item at a profit of 20%. If he reduces the price of the item by Rs 700, he incurs a loss of 15%. What is the cost price of the item?

    Solutions

    Let the cost price of the item be x

    So,

    35% of x= 700

    35x/100= 700

    x= 700*100/35

    x= 2000

    Cost price of the item= Rs 2000

  • Question 4/10
    1 / -0

    A man sold a music system at Rs. 5625 with a discount of 10% but he got a profit of 25%. If he did not give any discount, what would be the approximate profit percentage?

    Solutions

    A man sold a music system at Rs. 5625 with a discount of 10%.

    Then, the labeled price = Rs. 5625 × (100/90) = Rs. 6250

    He earned the profit of 25%.

    So, the cost price of the music system = Rs. 5625 × (100/125) = Rs. 4500.

    If he did not give any discount, then profit = Rs. (6250 – 4500) = Rs. 1750

    ∴ His profit percentage without giving any discount = (1750/4500) × 100 = 38.88 ≈ 39.

  • Question 5/10

    A businessman sells a article at 10% profit. If he had bought it at 10% less and sold it for Rs. 2 less, then he would have gained 50/3%. The cost price of the article is

    Solutions

    Let the first CP of the article be Rs. 100.

    First SP = Rs. 110

    Second CP = Rs. 90

    Gain = 50/3%

    Second SP = [{90(100+50/3)}/100]= Rs. {90 x (350/300)}= Rs. 105

    Difference of SPs = Rs. (110–105) = Rs. 5

    Therefore If the difference in SP is Rs. 5, the CP = Rs. 100.

    Therefore If the difference in SP be Rs. 2, the CP = 100/5 x 2 = Rs. 40
