    Sonu travelled a distance of 88 km in 8 hrs partly on foot at the rate of 8 km per hour and partly on a bicycle at 16 km per hour. What is the distance he travelled by bicycle?

    Solutions

      Let he travelled t hrs on foot.

    Distance = Speed × Time

    8 × t + 16 (8 – t) = 88

    128 – 88 = 8t

    8t = 40

    T = 5 hrs

    He travelled (8 – 5) = 3 hrs on bicycle

    So distance travelled by bicycle = 3 x16 =48km

    Simplify:

     (−5.5) (- 5.5) ÷ (- 5.5 + 0.5) + 0.05

    Solutions

    (-5.5) (- 5.5) ÷ (- 5.5 + 0.5) + 0.05

    = 30.25 ÷ (-5) + 0.05

    = - 6.05 + .05

    = - 6

    The difference in selling price of an article at a profit of 8% and 10% is Rs. 3. What will be the selling price when the profit is 8%?

    Solutions

     10 %CP – 8% of CP = 3

     2% CP = 3

    2/100 CP = 3

    CP = 150

    So SP at 8 % Profit = 108 ×150/100 = Rs.162

    Find the unit digit of the following 271 × 82 + 131 – 15 + 331

    Solutions

    Unit digit = 1 × 2 + 1 – 5 +1

     = 2 + 1 + 1 - 5 = 4 – 5 = - 1

    It cannot be negative take a borrow and subtract

    10 – 1 = 9

    If the HCF of m, n is 14 where m and n are positive integers m > n > 14. What will be the smallest value of m and n respectively?

    Solutions

    HCF is 14

    So number is 14 m, 14 n

    Smallest value will be

    14 × 2, 14 × 3

    28, 42

    As both numbers are greater than 14

    And m > n

    So m = 42 n = 28

    If  (3x – y)/(x + 3y) = ½ then find the value of (4x – y) / (4x + y) =?

    Solutions

    (3x –y)/(x+3y) = ½

    => 6x – 2y = x + 3y

    => 5x = 5y

    =>    x/y = 1

    (4x –y) / (4x+y)

    = y [4(x/y) – 1] /y [4(x/y) + 1]

    = (4 – 1)/ (4 + 1)

    = 3/5

    8 men or 24 children can finish a work in 33 days so number of days required by 12 men and 36 children to finish three times of such work.

    Solutions

    8 Men = 24 Children → 33 days

    1 Men = 3 Children → 33 days

    12 Men + 36 children → ?

    24 children can complete the work in 33 days

    (12 × 3) C + 36 C = 72 children

    24 children → 33 days

    72 Children → ?

    (24 × 33)/ 72 = 11 days

    ∴ Three times of the work can be completed in 33 days

    Solutions

    Actual Ratio = ½ : 1/3 : ¼ = 6 : 4 : 3

    Amount received by Mohan = 3/13 × 234 = 54

    By mistake Ratio of Ram : Shyam : Mohan =  2: 3 : 4

    Amount received by Mohan by mistake =4/9 x 234 =104

    Excess amount  received by him = 104 – 54 =50
